Mars square Chiron

Mars squares Chiron exactly today, the sharpest contact in the sky. Mars sits in the final degree of Cancer, the sign of its fall, where Ptolemy places its fiery nature at its weakest. Chiron stands retrograde in the final degree of Aries. Chiron marks the wound that does not close by ordinary means, and its hard aspects show what keeps reopening it. A discordant contact from a damped Mars tends to press on old sore places. Effort meets resistance where none was expected. Reactions come from an earlier hurt rather than the present moment. Heat turns inward instead of out. The square is separating, so its edge dulls over the coming days, but it is felt at full strength now.

The square between Pluto in Aquarius and Chiron has been in orb for years, and on most days it is background. Today Mars turns it into a T-square. Mars opposes Pluto, both square Chiron, and Chiron, as the apex, carries the strain. The Mars–Pluto opposition is still applying, so pressure along that axis builds even as the exact square to Chiron passes. A hard Pluto contact to a personal planet is where Pluto is felt as pressure. Here it arrives through Mars and lands on Chiron. Its likely texture is an old sense of lack, rejection or exposure suddenly feeling urgent, with a push to force the matter rather than work it.

The point opposite Chiron, in late Libra, is not empty. Mercury is there, drawing toward an opposition with Chiron while also squaring Mars. That forms a second T-square with Mars at its focus. The strain has somewhere to go, but the place it goes is under pressure too, and it tends to come back round to Mars.

Both lines we follow agree that Pluto's pressure is heavy. Astrocábala frames its purpose as regeneration: looking back over past experience to see whether one is recreating what does not serve. With Chiron at the apex, that question is pointed. The healing Chiron describes is not the wound disappearing but its conscious integration. Red Milenaria puts it that whoever has not wept their wounds does not understand the value of their victory. The practical counsel under Pluto applies directly: do not let frustration accumulate, do not give way to emotional coercion, and do not let someone else's authority quietly replace your own judgment. This sits harder for anyone with the Sun, Moon or an angle in the last degrees of the cardinal signs.

The day's other large figure is gentler and more usable. The Sun in Libra forms a grand trine in air with Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius, and the Sun–Uranus trine is still tightening. A closed trine supports itself, so what it signifies comes easily and runs without effort. Uranus disrupts, but in our reading what it disrupts toward is a wider order than the one being broken. Astrocábala places it at Hochmah, where understanding arrives by intuition rather than by reasoning. The Sun is in its fall in Libra, which Ptolemy explains as the season when its heat diminishes, so this ease is quiet rather than forceful. The cost of any grand trine is that nothing in it compels anyone to use what it offers.

Neptune in Aries supplies that compulsion. It opposes the Sun and sextiles both Uranus and Pluto, turning the trine into a kite with Neptune as its focus. The opposition gives the ease a pressure it otherwise lacks, and the sextiles give it a direction. Neptune loosens boundaries, including the one between what is and what is imagined. The same loosening that opens imagination also opens self-deception. Sepharial held that Neptune in hard aspect to the Sun shows a danger of deceit. Collectively, what looked settled tends to blur, and it becomes easier to believe what one would like to be true. This opposition is separating and loosens from here.

Neptune is also moving toward a square with Black Moon Lilith in early Capricorn, forming a T-square with Lilith at its apex. Black Moon Lilith is what refuses to be accommodated, and under this square it pushes back against whatever is being smoothed over. Nothing stands opposite Lilith, in early Cancer, so the sky offers that refusal no easy release. The kite and this square are felt more by those with planets in the early degrees of the air signs or of Aries.

Three bodies are in fall today: the Sun, Mars and Saturn, which the Moon has just passed in Aries. Little in the sky pushes with its full native force, and much of what is felt comes through strain rather than drive.

One practice while Mars and Chiron remain close: when a reaction feels larger than its occasion, pause long enough to ask which older situation it belongs to, then answer only the one in front of you.
