Mercury enters Scorpio

Mercury enters Scorpio today, at the very first degree of the sign, and walks straight into the largest figure in the sky: a grand cross with Mars in Leo, Pluto in Aquarius and Chiron at the last degree of Aries. Mercury governs the quality of the mind. Scorpio is a watery sign that Sepharial calls martial, so thinking takes on an edge just as it meets pressure from every side. At the centre of the cross, Mars and Pluto are drawing into opposition. The result is a sky in which pushing a plan, an argument or a decision in any one direction tends to stir resistance from the others, and frustration gathers faster than it clears.

The Mars–Pluto opposition is the heaviest line in that figure, and it has tightened since yesterday. Mars carries a fiery nature. Pluto brings long, heavy pressure, pushing us to face what has been set aside, and in the kabbalistic reading we follow, its purpose is regeneration. With the two pulling from opposite ends of the wheel, drive runs into weight. At full strength that shows as wills pressed hard against each other and effort that meets a wall.

The counsel under Pluto is consistent: do not let frustration accumulate, do not give way to emotional coercion, and do not let someone else's authority quietly stand in for your own judgment. The square between Pluto and Chiron has been in orb for years. Mars and Mercury are simply the passing bodies that make it sharp for now.

A grand cross holds itself in place. Every direction of movement meets another body with its own demand. Three of the four bodies sit in fixed signs, and fixed signs outnumber the rest in today's sky, so the pull is toward holding ground. Chiron at the final degree of Aries means this is not a clean fixed cross, but the tendency to dig in is clear. Effort on one side disturbs the other three.

The cross is shifting from day to day. Mercury's opposition to Chiron passed exact overnight and is now separating. Chiron marks an area that needs attention rather than damage. With the mind held directly against it, that soreness had been close to the surface, and it has now peaked. Mercury's trine to the North Node in Aquarius also passed exact and is easing. What is still tightening are Mercury's squares to Mars and to Pluto. So the strain is moving away from what hurts and toward what pushes.

Beside the cross, Neptune in Aries is slowly closing a square to Black Moon Lilith in Capricorn. Black Moon Lilith marks what refuses to be accommodated. Neptune loosens boundaries, and Sepharial ties it to complications and an involved state of affairs. Together they blur the line between a principled refusal and a quiet evasion, and it becomes harder to tell which one you are making.

There is one flowing line into all this. Mars is also tightening a trine to Neptune, which gives that fiery drive an imaginative outlet rather than only a wall to push against.

Some easier conditions are loosening. The Sun's trine to Uranus is separating, and with it the grand trine in air between the Sun, Uranus and Pluto. The kite that Neptune made by opposing the Sun is loosening as well. The Sun's square to Black Moon Lilith has ended, and the T-square it formed with Neptune has dissolved.

The Sun is now drawing toward an opposition with Saturn, and both stand in their falls: the Sun in Libra, Saturn in Aries. Ptolemy explains the pairing by saying Saturn takes its fall in the sign of the Sun's exaltation, keeping its station opposite the Sun. This contact is still wide, but it is tightening.

The Moon is exalted in Taurus and waning, which gives the feeling side of the day added strength and steadier footing than the rest of the sky. This configuration sits harder for anyone with planets in the early degrees of the fixed signs, or in the last degrees of Aries.

While the cross holds, work on one front at a time and expect the others to pull. If something is building, name it early rather than carrying it.
