Mars in Leo and Pluto in Aquarius came into exact opposition over the past day and are only now beginning to separate. Mars is fiery and dry. Leo, the Sun's house, is a sign of warmth and heat, while Aquarius, one of Saturn's houses, is cold and wintry. So the opposition sets quick heat squarely against a slow, heavy pressure that has been building for years. An opposition is a standing disagreement between two demands, and with Pluto at one end it is felt as pressure rather than as debate. People tend to feel pushed, and to push back harder than the moment calls for. Frustration builds quickly under this contact, and so does the temptation to settle things by sheer force.

What gives this weight beyond its exactness is Mars's place in the rest of the sky. Ptolemy gives Mars two houses, Aries and Scorpio. Today those signs hold Saturn, Neptune and Chiron on one side and Mercury and Venus on the other, so the strain on Mars runs through five other bodies it governs.

Mars is also the fast body crossing the long arrangement of the outer planets. Within a few degrees it opposes Pluto, has just passed an exact trine to Neptune, and is closing a sextile to Uranus. Those three have held their contacts with one another for years, as a generational background. For these few days Mars makes that background briefly personal.

The trine to Neptune is the easy channel, but not a clear one. Sepharial describes Neptune as producing an involved state of affairs and disposing toward irresponsible action. With Neptune sitting in Mars's own sign, energy that cannot get past Pluto finds a smooth route there instead, toward something that feels like relief but has not been thought through. The tightening sextile to Uranus is the more useful outlet. We read Uranus as disruption toward a wider order rather than toward chaos.

The opposition is also the base of a T-square with Mercury in Scorpio at its apex. Mercury passed its exact square to Pluto over the past day and is easing away from Mars, so the figure is separating and loosening. It is still tight enough to describe the day. The apex carries the strain of a quarrel it did not start. Mercury, which the tradition reads through the working of the mind and the conduct of business, sits here in Mars's sign, caught between both ends. Thinking tends to harden into position-taking, and a practical negotiation can turn into a contest over who gives way.

The point opposite Mercury, in early Taurus, is not empty. Chiron, back in the last degree of Aries since mid-September, widely opposes Mercury and squares Mars, and with it the figure closes into a grand cross, also separating. In a closed cross, every move in one direction meets resistance from the other three. Chiron marks what does not heal by ordinary means, and its aspects show what keeps reopening it. In this loosening cross, an old sore point is easily touched by a quarrel that is really about something else.

The second major contact is still gathering. The Sun in Libra is closing on an opposition to Saturn in Aries, and both are in their fall. Ptolemy explains why. The Sun weakens in Libra as days shorten and its heat declines, and Saturn weakens in Aries because rising heat diminishes cold. Each sits in the sign where the other is exalted. Neither the will to act nor the capacity to hold a limit has its usual footing, which tends to produce effort that stalls and rules that fail to hold.

Today is also the Last Quarter. The Moon in Cancer squares the Sun and, more widely, Saturn, standing at the apex of a short-lived T-square. The Moon is strong in its own house, so it carries both ends of that standoff at full weight. It also holds a clean soft contact of its own, an exact trine to Venus, a planet Ptolemy counts as of favourable temperament. That offers some ease, though it is already separating.

Neptune is exactly square Black Moon Lilith in Capricorn, and still closing. Black Moon Lilith is read here as what refuses to be accommodated. Meeting Neptune's tendency to complicate, a refusal tends to get louder rather than more precise.

One figure is new today. Mercury now stands quincunx both Uranus and Neptune, which have been in sextile for years, forming a yod with Mercury at the apex. The tradition divides here. Ptolemy does not count the quincunx among the recognised configurations, while modern practice reads it as an angle of adjustment, and we follow the modern line with the least confidence we give any figure. On that reading, Mercury shares nothing with either body and keeps correcting course without settling.

This sits harder for anyone with planets in the early degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius, or in the early-to-middle degrees of the cardinal signs. Mars moves on quickly, and the opposition and the squares to Mercury loosen over the coming days. The Sun–Saturn opposition is the contact still tightening.

While it lasts, it is worth acting on one matter at a time and expecting the others to pull. Before answering pressure, check whether it is really yours to carry, and release frustration in small, deliberate doses rather than storing it. Astrocábala, as taught by Red Milenaria, reads Pluto's pressure as regeneration: a review of whether one is recreating what no longer serves. That is a better use of this sky than winning.
