T-square

A T-square runs through today's sky. Mars in Leo stands opposite Pluto in Aquarius, and Mercury in Scorpio squares both, taking the strain of a quarrel it did not start. Mercury rules the mind, speech and exchange of every kind, so thinking and talking are where the pressure lands. Plain assertion, which is Mars, meets deep and impersonal power, which is Pluto, and the argument is fought out in words. Conversations tend to turn into contests over who holds the upper hand, and things that had been kept below the surface come up in what gets said. The figure has begun to loosen. Its legs are separating. But the Moon, now in Leo and sitting just past Mars, squares Mercury exactly today and so runs the same circuit again. The pressure is felt once more even as it eases.

At full strength, this pattern makes it hard to let a point go. A remark lands as a challenge, a reply comes back harder than intended, and the exchange circles because each push only returns more force. Pluto is the higher octave of Mars, and both traditions we draw on agree on that. What starts as a personal assertion can quickly feel as though much more is at stake. Under Pluto the counsel is steady: do not let frustration pile up unspoken, do not give way to emotional pressure, and do not let someone else's authority quietly stand in for your own judgment.

What the circuit lacks is stillness. The force goes round because nothing slows it, so a slower pace has to be supplied on purpose. The Moon's part of this passes within a couple of days as it moves further through Leo. The Mars side is already loosening. This sits harder for anyone with Sun, Moon or Mercury in the early degrees of the fixed signs.

Two figures that held yesterday have come apart, including a T-square that had Chiron in Aries at its focus. Mars has moved beyond its contact with Chiron, and that sensitivity is less pressed than it was.

The Sun's opposition to Saturn was exact yesterday and is now easing. Both bodies sit in their fall. On Ptolemy's scheme, each stands in the sign where the other is exalted. The Sun's warmth is waning in Libra, and Saturn's cold is diminished in Aries. The Sun carries confidence, standing and the will to act openly. Saturn carries patience, method, delay and hardship. Neither is at full strength, so the standoff is between a thinned confidence and limits that feel grinding rather than solid. Plans may meet slow obstruction, and effort tends to return results only in proportion to the labour put in. That weighs most on those with planets in the middle degrees of the cardinal signs, and it lightens as the week goes on.

Neptune in Aries is exactly square Black Moon Lilith in Capricorn today, and the contact is still tightening. Lilith is read as what refuses to be accommodated, the part that will not be made palatable in exchange for acceptance. Practitioners divide sharply beyond that, so we keep to it. Neptune loosens boundaries, and Sepharial ties it to complications, involved affairs and double-dealing. Where someone has been holding a line, the line tends to blur around these days. A refusal gets talked round, or softened into something vague. It also becomes harder to tell a firm boundary from simple evasion.

Mars is also moving towards a sextile with Uranus in Gemini, and it is tightening. Mars gives ambition and the drive towards new undertakings. Uranus brings sudden release and the break from what has been outgrown. This is the day's clearest outlet: a change of method, or an unplanned departure from routine. It offers the energy of the Mars–Pluto strain somewhere to go other than into a quarrel.

Mercury is drawing up to Venus in Scorpio, with Venus retrograde, and the Moon is closing a square to Venus. Thought and feeling are being pressed together, so talk turns towards affection, pleasure and what is owed between people. Further out, Venus is edging towards a square with Mars, which builds friction between desire and assertion over the coming days.

Mercury's quincunx to Uranus passed exact yesterday. Ptolemy recognised no familiarity between signs five apart. Modern practice, which we follow here while noting that the question remains open, reads the angle as a call to adjust course. Any such pull is now easing.

The Moon in Leo lends fixity of purpose and quick flashes of temper that do not harden into grudges. Before it leaves the sign it trines Saturn, which offers some steadiness later in its passage.

Today, when a point feels urgent, write it down before saying it. Then decide what is worth saying once the heat has gone out of it.
