Sun enters Libra

The Sun crosses into Libra today, and it arrives already under strain. Within half a degree of an exact square to Black Moon Lilith in Capricorn, and closing on an opposition to Neptune in Aries, the new season begins with the Sun pulled in two directions at once. Libra is called to weigh, to relate, to find the fair middle — and the first thing this Sun meets is something that refuses to be weighed. Expect the day to expose where a compromise has been holding only because nobody named its cost.

Those three bodies form a T-square, and it is applying rather than loosening — Sun opposite Neptune, both squaring Black Moon Lilith at the apex. Read as one configuration, not three separate strains: the pressure has a single address, and that address is Lilith in the first degree of Capricorn. Black Moon Lilith is read as what will not be domesticated or traded away for acceptance, and in Capricorn that shows up against structures, rules and the terms of an arrangement. At full strength this produces refusal — someone declining to be reasonable on terms they did not set. The release point of the figure, opposite the apex, is empty. Nothing in the sky supplies tending or shelter today; if it is wanted, it has to be put there deliberately.

The Neptune half of that opposition deserves its own naming. Neptune is the principle of dissolution — edges become less certain, and the same loosening that makes compassion and imagination possible also makes evasion and self-deception possible. Sepharial holds that Neptune in hard aspect to either light shows danger of deceit being practised, and of business affairs becoming involved and complicated. Take that as a condition, not a prophecy: clarity is genuinely harder to come by today, and agreements made under it are worth re-reading tomorrow.

Against this, the Sun is also applying to a trine with Pluto in Aquarius — the one easy contact of real weight in the day, and a useful counterweight. Flowing contacts to Pluto give depth and staying power without the crisis. Where the T-square produces friction, this gives the endurance to sit with it. The counsel that both the modern and the kabbalistic lines give under Pluto applies neatly here: do not let frustration accumulate quietly, and do not let someone else's authority stand in for your own judgment.

The Sun also stands at an exact quincunx to Chiron, now at the very last degree of Aries. The tradition divides openly on this angle — Ptolemy does not count signs five apart as configured at all, while modern practice reads the quincunx as a recurring need to adjust between two things with nothing in common. We follow the modern line, and hold it loosely. What it describes is a low, awkward friction between the day's Libran impulse to keep the peace and a sore spot that keeps asking to be met head-on. Mars in Cancer is applying to a square with the same point, which sharpens it.

Softer, and worth using: Mercury in Libra is separating from a sextile to Jupiter in Leo, and the Moon in Aquarius trines Mercury. Speech runs generous and wide under that combination, and a difficult conversation has more room in it than the rest of the sky would suggest.

The day is heavily cardinal and heavily air, with almost no earth — plenty of initiative and argument, little ballast.

While this holds, the practical thing is to say the unaccommodated thing once, plainly, and then stop — and to leave any agreement that depends on everyone being vague until the fog thins.
