Kite

Today the Moon completes a kite. It has just entered Libra and joins Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius in a grand trine through the air signs. Neptune in Aries stands opposite the Moon, and the Moon's opposition to Neptune is exact today. From there Neptune makes a sextile to each of the other two bodies.

A kite begins with a grand trine. We read a grand trine as one closed figure, not three separate trines. Its energy has no exit: each body's expression runs into the next and comes back round. That is why a grand trine feels like ease, and also why it can go nowhere.

Ptolemy gives the reason the trine reads as easy. He calls the trine and the sextile harmonious because they join signs of the same kind. He calls the opposition and the square discordant because they join signs of different natures.

The fourth body is what turns closed ease into a kite. Neptune's opposition supplies the pressure the trine lacks. Its two sextiles give that pressure somewhere useful to go. The body being opposed becomes the focus, and today that is the Moon, the point of the trine under demand. In our reading this makes the kite the more workable of the two figures, because the ease now has an outlet.

Sepharial puts the same structure in harsher terms. He counts Neptune among the malefics and calls the opposition an evil aspect. He also holds that a malefic in good aspect produces good effects, and that the aspect, not the planet, determines the result. By his rule, Neptune in today's figure works against the Moon through the opposition and helps through both sextiles. We do not use his language of good and evil, because we read a condition as workable rather than fated. On this point, though, his line and ours agree: the same body that presses can also open a way out.

Sepharial gives the Moon the personal fortunes and the changes they undergo. He gives Neptune voyages and psychic experiences. Put together, the figure brings something hard to name to bear on whatever in daily life has been running smoothly.

This is a brief figure. The Uranus–Pluto trine and Neptune's sextile to Pluto stand for years. The Moon closes the circuit only while it sits in these early degrees of Libra, so the kite holds for about a day.

The practice follows from the structure. Pick one thing in your life that currently comes easily: a habit, a working arrangement, a kind of understanding with someone. Ask what it is being asked to carry. If something vague or unsettling tugs at it today, treat that tug as the opposition's demand rather than a reason to retreat into comfort. Then find the outlet, one practical step that puts the ease to use. The kite asks for that answer, not for the demand to be smoothed away.
