Moon enters Taurus
When the Moon enters Taurus, the body of feeling and the need for security moves into the fixed earth sign ruled by Venus. The Moon crosses a sign in two or three days, so this condition is brief and comes round about once a month. Most people feel it as a shift of mood, and often notice it only afterwards.
The Moon describes how a person reacts before thinking: what makes them feel at home, the habits that run by themselves, the comfort they reach for. It has no light of its own. It gathers the Sun's light and passes it on, and it takes its colour from the sign it moves through. In balance it gives responsiveness and a quiet contentment. Out of balance it gives oversensitivity, insecurity and moods that shift without warning.
Taurus is the vessel that gives raw impulse a body. It brings stability, persistence and a real pleasure in the physical world, in what can be touched, kept and enjoyed. Whatever planet stands here moves more slowly and puts its energy to practical use. The same sign gives possessiveness and a firm grip on what it already holds, and it can be led far more easily than it can be driven. It is the slowest sign, yet what it does can be sharp and exact, reached with care and for a practical aim.
Joined, the two make feeling look for its security in tangible things: a settled routine, good food, a familiar room, money in hand. Moods move more slowly while the Moon is in Taurus. That slowness can show as patience and a steadier sense of oneself. It can also show as holding on to a comfort or a habit after it has stopped serving, or as digging in when someone tries to hurry a feeling along.
The old tradition places the Moon's exaltation in Taurus, and credits the Moon here with more reserve, more self-control and ambitions aimed at practical success. Modern practice offers a reason for the pairing. The Moon seeks emotional security and Taurus seeks physical and practical security, so the two share an affinity. We read the exaltation as that fit between energy and sign. It leaves the Moon capable of every direction described above.
In the kabbalistic reading the Moon stands at Yesod, the foundation at the base of the central pillar. That line reads the sign as contemplation turned towards refining the traits a person is born with. As the Moon crosses any part of a chart, it draws attention to that area's matters, and attitudes there that have gone unexamined can cause trouble while it is there. In Taurus, the attention falls on what a person holds on to, and why.
