Mars and Uranus are in sextile. The contact came exact yesterday and is now just beginning to loosen. Mars in Leo carries the drive toward freedom, ambition and new enterprise. Uranus in Gemini, retrograde for some time now, is the principle of sudden release: the break that comes when a structure can no longer hold what is inside it. The sextile is one of the harmonious configurations, so the two cooperate rather than collide. The urge to act finds an opening to act differently, and a change that has been postponed tends to feel more possible than it has. The window narrows as the days pass, so the ease is fullest while the contact is this close.
Neptune and Black Moon Lilith are in square, exact today. Lilith moves slowly, so this one fades over several days rather than overnight. Neptune loosens edges: between self and surroundings, between what is and what is imagined. That loosening makes compassion and imagination possible, and it also makes evasion possible. Lilith is what refuses to be accommodated, the part that will not be made palatable or traded away for acceptance. The square is a discordant configuration, and here it blurs exactly what ought to stay clear. A firm refusal can soften into vagueness. Or a refusal can be inflated into something grander than it is. Practitioners diverge widely on Lilith, so we leave it there.
New today is a T-square. Mars in Leo opposes Pluto in Aquarius, and Venus in Scorpio squares both, which makes Venus the apex. Modern practice and Astrocábala agree that Pluto is the higher octave of Mars. Mars is direct assertion. Pluto is what assertion becomes when it goes deep, turns sustained and stops being personal. Their opposition is a standing argument over power: who pushes, and who holds.
Venus did not start that argument, but it takes the strain. Venus is fine feeling, taste, pleasure and the wish for things to be pleasant. Today it is retrograde in Scorpio, the sign Pluto co-rules. At full strength the figure turns affection into leverage. Closeness gets drawn into contests of will, and desire and irritation become hard to tell apart.
Read the figure honestly. Its widest leg, Venus to Pluto, has only just come into orb, and the Mars–Pluto opposition is easing. So the figure is held loosely at the moment. But the Venus–Mars square is tightening, and the Venus–Pluto square is applying, so the pressure on Venus is building rather than fading. This sits harder for anyone with planets in the early degrees of the fixed signs.
The relief for a T-square lies opposite its apex, in what the figure itself lacks. Here that is warmth with no contest attached, something steady that has to be supplied on purpose because nothing in the sky provides it. The counsel for Pluto pressure is consistent across both lines we draw on. Do not let frustration pile up unspoken. Do not give way to emotional coercion. Do not let someone else's authority quietly replace your own judgment. Red Milenaria turns to Rilke here, who wrote that perhaps the dragons of our lives are princesses waiting to see us beautiful and brave. The dragon is still a dragon. It can also be faced.
Mercury in Scorpio is tightening into a quincunx with Saturn in Aries. This is an angle on which the tradition divides. Ptolemy held that signs five apart share no familiarity and did not count it as a configuration. Modern practice, which we follow, reads it as a contact of adjustment. On that reading, the mind meets a limit it cannot negotiate with, and plans need correcting more than once before they fit. Saturn's gift is method and slow results in proportion to the effort. Mercury's is quickness. The two have little in common, which is why the correction keeps recurring. Meanwhile Mercury has moved past its conjunction with Venus, and its square to Mars is easing, so words are slightly less likely to come out sharpened by heat.
Two other contacts frame the day. The Sun's opposition to Saturn is loosening. Both bodies sit in their falls: Ptolemy places the Sun's fall in Libra, where the days shorten, and Saturn's in Aries, where heat rises and cold diminishes. Each is weakened in the other's season, and their standoff is fading. Mars is also moving into a trine with Saturn, still wide but applying. That gives the restless push of the Mars–Uranus sextile a slower partner, one able to give it shape.
If something can be changed now, change it while the opening is wide. Keep anything tender out of a contest of wills. Where your no needs to be clear, say it plainly once and let it stand.
