Moon enters Gemini
When the Moon enters Gemini, the planet of feeling and instinctive response passes into the sign of the mind. It stays two or three days before moving on, long enough to change the tone of how people react, too briefly to settle into anything lasting.
The Moon is the part of us that answers before we think: habits that run on their own, reactions learned long ago, the need to feel at home and safe. The old tradition gave it the part of the soul that works without reason. It has no light of its own. It gathers the Sun's light and passes it on, and it stands for ebb and flow. In Astrocábala it sits at Yesod, the foundation, where the emotions are first held and sheltered, and where illusion lives among images. Its reactions can run unattended, yet every one of them can be brought into awareness by deliberate attention.
Gemini is air, mutable and double-bodied, ruled by Mercury, the planet the old tradition gave the reasoning part of the soul. It may be the most changeable of the changeable signs. It takes in everything, jumps from one connection to the next, talks, asks and makes friends easily. It understands quickly, with little empathy, and mostly wants to know what is going on. Under pressure it goes round an obstacle or simply changes. The Sepher Yetzirah gives it the letter Zayin and the faculty of movement, and one kabbalistic reading makes that movement a striving forward which, without direction, turns into walking in circles.
This is why astrology reads the placement as it does. The Moon, which works without reason, enters the sign of the planet that reasons. Gemini quickens any planet and lifts it to a more abstract level, and it presses hardest on the planets of feeling, the Moon first among them. Feeling moves into the head. Security comes from information, conversation and contact, and a mood can be named, explained and traded for another within the hour.
That runs both ways at full strength. It gives responsiveness, quick adaptation, wit and an easy flow between people. It also gives restlessness, moods that skim the surface, inconstancy, and a lack of empathy that can wound someone without anyone intending it. A feeling put into words can be understood more clearly, or argued away before it has said what it knows.
A lunar passage is felt mostly in mood, and often noticed only after it has gone. Read through Gemini's letter, what it asks is movement with a direction: talk and curiosity that carry a feeling somewhere it can land.
