Venus and Mars came to an exact square over the past day and are now just past it. The strain they carry is at its height and only beginning to ease. Venus, retrograde in Scorpio, is the planet of fine feeling, pleasure and affection. Mars in Leo brings frankness, ambition and a certain scorn of consequence. Ptolemy calls the square discordant, a contact between signs of unlike kind, and he gives the two planets opposite tempers: Venus moist and temperate, Mars dry and strongly heating. Together the square tends to set the wish for closeness against the wish to have one's own way. Plain speaking lands harder than intended, affection gets pushed rather than offered, and small frictions in love and at home flare more readily than the matter deserves. Because the contact is separating, this is the peak of a tension that loosens over the coming days, not one still building.
Pluto widens it. Venus is moving toward a square with Pluto in Aquarius while Mars drifts out of an opposition to it, and the three are bound into a T-square with Venus at its point. The legs are loose rather than tight, but the figure matters because of where the strain settles: on Venus, in a sign that both Astrocábala and modern practice give Pluto a share in ruling. Pluto is what is buried surfacing, and the question of power, both the power one holds and the power held over one. Both lines read it as the higher octave of Mars, assertion that has gone deep and stopped being personal.
The Mars–Pluto leg is loosening and the Venus–Pluto leg is tightening. As the open quarrel cools, its weight shifts onto affection itself: who gives way, who sets the terms, what has gone unspoken. If a closeness has rested on one person quietly yielding, that arrangement tends to come under question around these days.
Venus is also tightening toward a quincunx with Uranus. The tradition divides on this angle. Ptolemy holds that signs five apart share no familiarity and does not count it among his configurations, while modern practice reads it as an aspect of adjustment, and we follow the modern line. Read that way, affection and Uranus's demand for freedom and sudden release share no common ground. The usual result is a run of small course corrections rather than a settled arrangement.
Neptune remains in an exact square to Black Moon Lilith, the Moon's apogee, and is easing only very slowly. Neptune dissolves edges. That is the source of compassion and imagination, and equally of evasion and self-deception. Lilith marks what refuses to be accommodated, the part that will not belong on terms it has not chosen. Squared, the two blur the line around that refusal. It becomes harder to tell a principled no from a hazy withdrawal, or a real boundary from an idealised one.
The Moon, in the last degrees of Libra, makes two exact contacts that land on a long background condition. It trines the North Node in Aquarius and opposes Chiron in Aries, touching both ends of the slow sextile those two have held for months. Chiron entered Aries in mid-September. It marks the wound that does not close by ordinary means, and the skill that grows from having carried it. With the Moon opposite, that sore place enters the day's feelings, and that is uncomfortable. Pluto squares both, widely, closing a second loose figure that lasts only while the Moon stays where it is.
The trine to the Node is the easier half. The North Node is read as the direction of growth, unfamiliar and effortful, and Astrocábala reads the nodes through tikun, repair, marking what is still outstanding. A flowing Moon lends adaptability and a taste for change to that effortful direction. The day favours one step on something long left unaddressed, and the Chiron opposition tends to show which thing it is.
Two easier contacts run underneath. Mars is closing on a trine to Saturn, tightening day by day. Saturn is in its fall in Aries, which Ptolemy explains as heat rising and cold diminishing. In a harmonious aspect it still lends what Sepharial assigns it: patience, method, results in proportion to labour. Joined to Mars's ambition and executive ability, the trine favours starting work that needs stamina and a plan. It also gives the heat of the Venus square somewhere useful to go. Mars's sextile to Uranus, which added inventiveness, is now easing.
New today, the Sun begins an applying sextile to Jupiter in Leo. The Sun is in its fall in Libra, its heat waning as Ptolemy has it. Jupiter, the Lord of Increase in Sepharial's account, supports it with optimism, generosity and warmth, and with the favour of those in a position to give it. These are good days to ask for something, to be generous, and to enjoy what is going well.
All of this presses harder for anyone with personal planets in the early degrees of the fixed signs, where Venus, Mars and Pluto are working.
Where the day strains, take Pluto's counsel. Don't let frustration pile up, don't yield to emotional pressure, and don't let someone else's certainty replace your own judgment. Say the difficult thing plainly once, and with Chiron lit, attend to your own need before others'. Where it flows, use the Mars–Saturn trine and the Sun–Jupiter sextile to begin something that rewards steady effort, or to ask openly for what you want.
