Mars in Leo and Saturn in Aries reach an exact trine today. These are two planets the older books treated as difficult, meeting at one of the two angles the tradition calls harmonious. Mars carries ambition, executive drive and the push toward new enterprises. Saturn carries method, patience and endurance. Joined by a trine between two fire signs, the urge to begin and the capacity to keep going pull in the same direction. Effort tends to come out steadier than usual, and plans made under this contact tend to have something solid underneath them.
Saturn's condition shapes what kind of steadiness is on offer. Ptolemy places Saturn's fall in Aries, reasoning that where heat increases, cold must diminish, and Saturn is the planet of cold. In this hot sign its restraining quality runs thin, so today's discipline is less a brake than a backbone.
Sepharial counted both Mars and Saturn among the malefic planets, yet held that they produce good effects in good aspect. He described Saturn's gift as success that is slow but sure, in proportion to the labour put in. That is the shape of today. Mars, passing through Leo, briefly switches on a condition Saturn has been holding in Aries for some time, and gives Saturn's patience something to push. Mars on its own tends toward frankness and a scorn of consequence. Here the consequences are kept in view.
Six bodies stand in fire signs today and only one in earth. Heat is not what this sky lacks. The scarcer quality is staying power, and this trine is where it can be reached. The contact is felt most by anyone with planets in the early to middle degrees of the fire signs. It is still closing. Once Mars moves on, it loosens over the following days.
The Sun's sextile to Jupiter has just passed exact and is now separating. The Sun is in Libra, its fall in Ptolemy's scheme, because there it passes into the lower half of the year and its heat begins to wane. Jupiter in Leo supplies what the Sun lacks there: optimism, generosity, a sense of increase. That lift has peaked and begins to ease. The waxing Moon in Sagittarius is moving toward a trine with Jupiter and a sextile with the Sun. It adds an appetite for change and exploration, so the mood of the day leans outward rather than inward.
The harder contact is building elsewhere. Venus, retrograde in Scorpio, is tightening its square to Pluto in Aquarius, and it will keep tightening for some days yet. Venus governs affection, pleasure, taste and the terms of close relationships. Pluto is the principle of what is buried coming to the surface, and of the difference between power we hold and power held over us. A square is a discordant angle, and a hard contact from Pluto to a personal planet is felt as pressure rather than depth.
Where giving and receiving have quietly stopped matching, or where one person's wishes have been setting the terms for both, that becomes harder to overlook while this square builds. It sits hardest for anyone with personal planets in the early degrees of the fixed signs. The square between Venus and Mars, meanwhile, continues to ease, so the sharper friction between wanting and acting is loosening even as Pluto's pressure grows.
The counsel both of our lines give under Pluto applies here. Do not let frustration pile up unspoken. Do not give way to emotional coercion. Do not let someone else's authority quietly stand in for your own judgment.
Neptune in Aries has also just passed an exact square to Black Moon Lilith in Capricorn, and is now separating. Neptune loosens edges. Lilith marks what refuses to be accommodated, the part that will not be traded away for acceptance. Under the square, the line between holding one's ground and simply drifting away from a demand can blur. That blur is easing now.
Today favours work that needs both nerve and stamina. Choose one thing that has stalled for want of either, give it a fixed stretch of time, and let the Mars–Saturn trine carry it. Where a question of who decides comes up, say plainly where you stand, and do it calmly.
