Pluto turns direct today in the early degrees of Aquarius. For about five months it has been moving backward, and today it seems to stand still before moving forward again, which concentrates its force. Pluto's work is deep change: clearing away what has run its course so that something renewed can come through, and the question of power that comes with it. In Aquarius that change works through groups and shared ideals, through people's sense of how society should be, and over the years Pluto spends here it concerns a whole generation more than any single life. Standing still in place is the one option it does not offer.

Venus, retrograde in Scorpio, is closing a square to Pluto, and this is where the station reaches ordinary life. Venus is affection, pleasure and what draws people close. In Scorpio it works with intensity and keeps little distance from its own feelings, and retrograde it brings back people and matters from the past and asks for a second look at what someone wants in love. The square sets all of this against Pluto's pressure. At full strength it shows as wanting to be loved more than loving, closeness used as leverage, emotional demands, affection held back, and a struggle over who decides. Fought or pushed down, the same problem keeps coming back. Worked with, the friction gives each side more force and clarity. People with planets in the early degrees of Scorpio and Aquarius feel this most.

Venus is also exactly quincunx Uranus in Gemini, and the two form a yod with Black Moon Lilith in Capricorn, so the strain runs through all three points at once. The classical tradition does not count this angle; modern practice reads it as a strained link between energies that do not fit. Venus wants nearness, and Uranus wants room and breaks whatever has gone rigid. Neither settles the other, so the pull between them tends to feel nagging or compulsive. It is handled by small, discerning changes of approach. Resisted, Uranus's tension only builds.

Mars and Saturn passed their exact trine since yesterday and are separating slowly. Mars is drive and the will to act; Saturn is structure, patience and responsibility, and retrograde it slows things further and turns attention to review. With Mars in Leo, steady and working without let-up, and Saturn in Aries, quick to move but short of staying power, the trine lets effort run smoothly inside a structure already in place. It suits work that is begun and kept going, built step by step. Its weakness is the trine's own: ease taken for granted, and a routine that holds an old pattern in place because nothing pushes against it.

The Sun's sextile to Jupiter is exact today and easing. The Sun is will and the need to be recognised; Jupiter is growth, confidence and generosity, and it does its proper work when what it brings is shared. A sextile offers an opening that takes some effort to use, and left alone it stays a possibility. Meanwhile Mercury is moving into a square with Jupiter, still wide and tightening. Jupiter's other side is over-confidence and promising too much, and Mercury at its hastiest speaks and decides too fast, so as this builds, plans and promises can run ahead of what supports them.

The Moon is in the last degree of Sagittarius, exactly trine Chiron and moving toward a square with Neptune. Feeling here leans toward ideals and wide horizons and is loosely tied to habit. The trine to Chiron eases contact with what hurts or feels blocked, and with the ability to relieve in others what one has carried oneself. The square to Neptune pulls the other way. Neptune dissolves edges, which brings compassion and imagination, and at full strength illusion, evasion and self-deception, so feelings are easily taken for what one hoped they were. What is felt today is worth checking against what is actually there. Neptune is also easing out of a square to Black Moon Lilith, and in the background Neptune and Pluto hold their long sextile.

The day falls in the first half of the lunation that began with the New Moon in Libra on 10 October and runs to the Full Moon in Taurus on 26 October, in its crescent phase, when what began at the New Moon pushes against the resistance of old forms and the first signs of it start to show. Pluto's station sharpens that push: old structures press back, and what is new has to hold its ground.

Where something has run its course, in a group, a shared plan or a relationship, let it end and help the change along rather than holding on to what is going. Where a bond has rested on one side setting the terms, say plainly what you want and weigh the other person's expectations calmly. Then use the steadiness still in Mars and Saturn to carry it forward one step at a time.
