The Sun, in the last degrees of Libra, is opposing Chiron in Aries, within a degree of exact and still tightening. The Sun carries the will and the need to be seen for what one is. Chiron marks the sore place, where something has long felt blocked or not quite working, and an opposition is lived through other people. If someone's remark lands on an old bruise, the sting is real, and so is the chance to notice that part of the ache was there before they spoke. Pluto in Aquarius squares both ends, and that makes a T-square, formed new today. The force of the opposition now runs to one point. It can go into change that serves a group, or into a struggle over who controls what.
This half of the lunation opened with the New Moon in Libra on 10 October and runs to the Full Moon in Taurus on 26 October. The day falls in the First Quarter phase, a crisis in action: a break with what came before and new structures built with force. The opposition tests whatever that New Moon set going. A plan made then may meet the place where confidence gives out, and that meeting is part of building it.
The apex is Pluto, direct again since 16 October. Pluto in Aquarius wants to remake how people organise themselves together. Pushed hard, it reaches for power over others and for manipulation, and it can flatten individual freedom inside a group. Used well, it is the nerve to face one's own compulsions and change them. Beneath it runs the long square between Pluto and Chiron, in orb for more than six weeks, easing now and in orb until 30 October. The Sun reaching the far end of Chiron is what closes the figure. A T-square asks for its force to be gathered and aimed at something specific. Left to run, it tends to produce events that feel out of one's hands. Held down, it can produce them as well. Astrocábala asks of Pluto that collapse and reconstruction stop fighting each other and work as one process.
A second T-square shares that square. Venus, retrograde in Scorpio, squares Pluto within a degree, the contact easing, and opposes Chiron, tightening. The Sun is closing on Venus as well, so love and the self are being pressed by the same pair. Venus retrograde brings back people and questions from the past. It reopens what cracked and asks what one actually wants from closeness. Against Pluto, the pull goes two ways: towards attachment that grips and wants control, or towards the courage to look at what drives a desire. If wanting to be loved starts to outrun willingness to give it back, or if affection is held back as leverage, that is the square working through the wound. People with placements in the late degrees of Libra and Aries, or the early degrees of Aquarius and Scorpio, feel these figures more.
Two quincunxes are also within a degree. Each joins two energies that do not fit, and asks for clear awareness and fine adjustment rather than force. Venus quincunx Neptune is the closer of the two, and still applying. The ideal of love and the person actually present slip out of register, and it is hard to hold both in view at once. Neptune in Aries works under some strain, and none of the planets stands in an earth sign, so imagination can drift into fantasy with nothing practical to anchor it.
Uranus in Gemini, retrograde, quincunx Black Moon Lilith in Capricorn, is also applying. A restless, quick mind is meeting a sense of lack around control and achievement. If unease without an obvious cause shows up, it probably belongs here. Two yods involving Venus ended since yesterday, and with them the quincunx between Venus and Uranus, so Venus's only quincunx left is the one to Neptune.
Easier contacts carry as much weight. The Sun's trine to the North Node in Aquarius has just passed exact. Astrocábala reads the Nodes as repair, the work still outstanding, and the same Sun that faces Chiron flows easily towards that work. The Moon, in the last degree of Aquarius, has just passed the Node, trines the Sun, sextiles Chiron and is applying to a trine with Venus. Near the Node the mind runs sharper and more active, and these easy contacts can soften the sore point instead of reopening it.
Mars in Leo trines Saturn in Aries. The trine is easing but still in orb, and it is the strength the T-squares can draw on. Drive and structure move together. The old tradition counts Saturn in its fall in Aries. The patient, building planet sits in a sign that wants results now, which can show as rigidity or as a discipline that gives impulse a shape. Saturn retrograde slows things and asks for review.
Astrocábala asks of Saturn that a person build, correct and set the course straight, and that is the practical use of the day's pressure: one concrete piece of repair, done properly.
Mercury in Scorpio squares Jupiter in Leo, tightening, three days before Mercury turns retrograde on 24 October. Words come large, and promises come easily and run past what can be kept. Pride gets attached to one's own view. It helps to check what is said and to promise only what will hold.
The sky's shape is a splay: sharp, separate points of emphasis with no single body leading them. Six planets stand in fixed signs, which makes for persistence and for stubbornness that can hold off a change already due.
